classic movie school

We have been using some of our quiet afternoons to watch classic old movies. It has been so lovely I think it is time to get a summer movie list together.  Here are a few we have already watched:

I have to say I was surprised how much Boo loved Anne of Green Gables.
We might have to read the series after all!

practice is

Boo has been working hard at gym. Season is finally over for everybody. Her grips are broken in. Although I have not had a chance to see her on set (bars) in what seems like forever.
On the social side of gym life, 2 teammates retired and 2 new teammates move up from compulsory. One of the move ups is an old, much loved teammate who fell behind because of health issues and has fought her way back. Yeah!!! The other is the little sister of one of the Level 7's. <3 sisters <3 I love that!

Right now boo's big-big is that back tuck on high beam!

Go Boo!!!

The other big is her series (2 connected skills) on beam which she will need for Level 7. If you can have a flight skill, such as a back hand spring or a double down, in your series you don't need to do a separate flight skill.

Boo (above) warming up the series most of the 7's worked to competed last season It is the back walkover back flick.

Currently Boo is working a back walkover double down.
I was working so all I got was the double down part.

A collection of tumbling and such:
(not sure as to what is even on here)

wild west window garden

Boo may not be much of a history lover but she does love horses.
That is part of the reason we are revisiting the wild wild west.
Our wild west window garden was super easy to make.
Our box is a vintage bread pan we picked up at local thrift store for .75 cents, cut to size plastic lining we found in Boo's papa's work shop, the rocks are from one of many desert camping trips, toy horses belonged to Boo's big sister, and the cacti are from the plant shop across the street from Boo's gym, cost about $4.00 each.
I wouldn't have spent that much on 2 plants but Boo was sent over alone while I was working on Saturday. I could see her the whole way over. I just couldn't see her spend almost all the money I sent her with  She was so happy with the 2 she got I couldn't really be mad over a few bucks.
The soil is a sand and potting soil mix.
That is pretty much it.
Fun, quick, and easy! A project worth keeping around.

Boo's Life the game

Not yet available in stores it is Boo's Life the game!
This is a project I have wanted to do forever! We took the 3 or 4 main areas in Boo's life and created a game around them: gym, stable, and homeschool/farm life.
With LIFE cards such as:
"Time for mat moving! Move any one player to GYM to help you"
"Stick the landing but forget to salute the judges go back to GYM and lose next turn"
"Skunk in the chicken coop. Lose your turn to take a shower."
"Impress your coach with a good answer. Get out of GYM free card."
"Eggs hatch! Go home to help take care of them"
"Finish home school work in under 2 hrs. Roll again"
"Run into vault table. Lose turn sitting on the bench icing your pride"
"Your favorite leo is dirty. Go back 1 space."
"4 night PBS special on cheese making.
Lose next turn watching it with your family."
"Surprise Inter Squad at gym. Go to GYM and roll again."
"Meet weekend. Get out of chores at HOME free card"
"Coach D suddenly goes to Reno and cancels practice.
Go to STABLE for a day of riding."
 Absolutely a blast!

spelling fish

While working with silent consonant blends we got the idea to make a silent blend aquarium using 2 sheets of paper (one for the tank boarder, the other for the tank) and plastic wrap. Pretty simple and fun art project to reinforce spelling and phonics.

When I asked Boo what was up with the 2 fishes named Knot she told me they were fighting and the looser has to change its name to not.
