post cards from Southern Utah, day 2 Kane Creek to Hovenweep

Monday morning we woke up and hiked Kane Creek.
Watching our step over biological soils.
From Kane Creek we headed for Monticello stopping in Canyonlands to see Newspaper Rock.
We attempted to drive Harts Draw but it was snow bound so we headed for Monticello on main roads.  We peeked in on family property, so beautiful! Look at he Abajo Mts.
We fueled and got coffee in town before heading to Blanding and The Edge of the Ceders NM.
Then to the Hatch Trading Post...oh my. It was something to see and something even better to skip!  We stopped because it was on every map we had.  We bought something (toilet paper & beer) because we felt so awful once we got inside and saw it.  I'm not describing it because if you don't have something nice to say you don't say it smelled like old people & pee.
From there we had a bid of a question regarding which road was our road to Hovenweep.
Black Steer Creek wasn't marked by the BLM so we gambled and sure enough our dirt road was full of black steer and it led us to Hovenweep.
Hiking the loop trails around the ruins around Hovenweep is a must do.
The blue belly lizard catch & release.
With so much to see in Hovenweep we decided to spend the night & checked into the campground.
A little star spotting with Papa before a big fire and a very cold night.
